Last week was Oni-con in Houston, which was awesome and a much needed break from school. While I was there I was lucky enough to have a photo project, portraits, that could be completed at the con. Long story short, I found some really awesome cosplayers, got 4 really great rolls of film developed and presented probably the best project of my college career so far. With this being such a great success and considering how much I enjoyed both taken and printing all the pictures, I’ve decided to attempt to turn this into a much bigger project and hopefully a small scale business venture. From now on I will try and devote the majority of my con attendance to scheduling photo shoots and selling prints back to the cosplayers. So far with this first run, it seems to very successful, with everyone wanting prints, which has pushed me into attempting this at the next con I attend. I really hope that this will work out for me, make some money doing what I love, where I love to be or at least pay off the cost of the trip there. I haven’t really got anything else hashed out yet, but I plan on doing so soon. Until then, here are pictures (bad scanner /sadface).

Before you know it they’re jamming and Mio is singing. You enjoy the performance, and when Mio asks you what you thought of the song, you tell her it was awesome. “So…what do you say, then?” she asks, blushing deeply. That’s when you realize that the song was an attempt to ask you out. Better hope she doesn’t realize you missed it. |

Real quick post, just finished putting my room together and threw in a blacklight for fun. I guess I never noticed it before, but some of the figures react really cool to it.

2 Decades...damn that sucks
As of 12 am this morning I have officially been alive for 2 decades and it feels grosser and more depressing than anything I have ever experienced. I no longer have the excuse of being a teenager and now all of a sudden, after never acting or regarding myself any older than ~15, have to become responsible and adult-like. This is a feeling I’m not and don’t really want to get used to, but society demands it so I hopefully will grow up.
Well if anything good came from this horrible event is that my awesome friends bought me epic and more EPIC as gifts.

I’ll need my day to get over feeling old and the idea that I’ll have to experience this 20 year time frame 3 more times @_@, but I will play with my new figures plus the ones I got from Mechacon, take some pictures, feel 15 again and move on.
ZSZS, Gunbuster and Mechacon July 22, 2009
Finally got around to watching the second episode of Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei today and am glad to see that its continuing with being funny and not disjointed like Zoku. There was a lot of parody/reference in this episode for some reason, maybe the same as usual, but I just got it this go around. I also started watching Gunbuster after having finally finished Diebuster like a week or so ago and loving it, I wanted to see the original. Its pretty good, but I’m only two episodes in so far. I have to say that watching something made in the 1980s and comparing it to stuff now, it holds up very well, I especially love the typical 80s music. This weekend is Mechacon, so yay, I always have fun there, its not the best, but something about it being in my hometown and what not, its special. I’m hoping to get a lot of good pictures, this being my first con with my new camera and all. A lot of friends are going to be there so I know that it’ll be a blast if anything just to hang out with everyone, probably go to the Bulldog one night, but I’m really looking forward to it, I’ll try and post a couple pictures everyday (cosplay, random stuff, us drunk, whatever).

Today’s big update over at Nagi-sama Fanclub , DVDs now!!!! How awesome is that, the first one, episodes 1-7, go on sale tomorrow and I’ll be picking them up asap.
It is a good day.
Update: Got my membership card, No. 1356, originally had like 1010, but had to print immediately and I didn’t have a printer at the time. Its still a really fun thing to have.

Endless Eight… July 10, 2009
Even Haruhi wants this to end.
Yea I love this show and everything, but this is getting unbearable, did they plan on having actually 8 episodes of the same thing?! Thank god there is an official schedule because I would just stop if this were to really keep going. I probably will take the time to read the novel just to see how the bearable version of this story goes. At first a thought it was a clever idea, but 4 episodes later of the same thing and its just too much.
Update: Found out that in true Haruhi fashion that even the novels are out of order, so where I thought I was just going to read straight through them I’m now jumping to the 5th novel after finishing the 3rd. Luckily I found this so now I can stay on top of it so I can’t be blindsided by another span of 4 episode repeats. Tomorrow I’ll start reading and find out how Endless Eight actually happened, or at least it won’t take me an hour and a half to get through.
Second update: So I just finished reading Endless Eight, an event that took maybe all of an hour, and dear god KyoAni is milking this story for some reason. It makes no sense why they would do this unless it is some sort of bad joke, there are no repeats in the novel at all, its just the one go through – 15,498th time and that’s it. If the next episode is another Endless Eight, I might watch the last 5 minutes if anything, this whole thing was ridiculous.
Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei July 9, 2009
Well since the first group has finally put out an English Sub, I jumped on it asap to see how the new season was looking. For the most part its still the same thing, which is awesome since it was great as is, but luckily it seems like its picking back up to the quality of the first season. Its still very random for the most part, but the episode feels more coherent then those in the later part of Zoku. There’s a couple really good scenes that I liked a lot, one involving the girls saving Itoshiki. One thing that I am ecstatic about is them bringing back the Sing a Long drawing song from episode 7 of Zoku, one of my favorite parts, so I hope that they are planning to keep it each week having new characters sing and draw. My only real complaint is that for the first time the OP and ED are quite weak and I think I might just skip them from now on, which is sad since they have had some of my favorite in the past. So can’t wait until the next episode gets subbed, these guys were pretty fast for such a translation intensive show, makes me want to start practicing Japanese again.

Great J-pop band if you haven’t heard them yet, they’ve done the themes for anime like, .hack//twilight, Welcome to the N.H.K., Gunbuster 2, ect. Finally though, after like 5-6 years of just singles, I have found cds. Didn’t know that they existed until last year and took this long to get them, but I’m super excited and it will probably be the only thing I listen to for a couple of days. More info

New Camera and Random Class Project July 6, 2009
So yea I officially have the greatest father on the planet, as if that was in question before hand, but out of nowhere he went out and bought me a Nikon D60 and a 55mm-200mm zoom lens. So I hope to really get a jump start on my photography, I start my 3rd side job this Friday, taking pictures of local bands for http://www.redsticklive.com and I’m hoping that it works out well for me.
My first project using it was to create a “digital flipbook,” and I used pictures and a Shana Figma that I own to do a quick stop-motion animation. Overall you can tell that it was done in like 30 min, but it would look better if it wasn’t for the one skip in positioning, I thought it was a lot smoother when I was taking that shots, but whatever. I hope to get the chance to make a second short tonight, provided my friends are free and it doesn’t rain anymore. If it turns out decently I’ll post it.
